The GIS Analyst performs complex technical and analytical geographic information systems task including: designs and generates GIS maps, map templates, geodatabases, GIS web services, tables, and reports; creates, updates, edits, manipulates, and helps to maintain the city’s geospatial data sets; performs analysis and geoprocessing of spatial data; performs data searches and retrials; analyzes spatial data for geographic statistics; handles the acquisition and distribution of spatial data within the GIS, in addition to QA/QC of incoming/outgoing data; implements complex geospatial projects and initiatives; creates and maintains metadata and best practices to support GIS systems and spatial data; assists in supporting and maintaining the city’s web mapping applications and GIS web services; analyzes, troubleshoots, and resolves GIS issues; provides guidance, training, and technical support regarding the GIS system; makes presentations; provides data to architects, engineers, developers, contractors, and owners; and collects field data using GPS.
Hours: Full-time, first shift hours.
To Compete in the Selection Process: Qualified applicant must have a Bachelor’s degree with major course work in geography, GIS, computer science or related field with considerable experience in municipal, county, or regional GIS systems. Must have a thorough knowledge of: the design, development, and support of GIS applications; geospatial databases; esri’s ArcGIS Desktop 10.3/ ArcGIS Pro 2.4 or higher; geodatabase structure; relational database concepts; ArcGIS Server and GIS web services; and Python scripting and ModelBuilder. Successful candidate must be able to: analyze and compile information into reports, maps, and other related materials; present information clearly and concisely; demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills; handle multiple projects simultaneously; and interpret various rules and regulations.Special Requirement: NC driver's license required and GISP (Geographic Information Systems Professional) certification is preferred.
