The Environmental Services Technician position is responsible for performing technical work in Water Resources which includes maintaining the Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG) program, conducting various inspections and laboratory duties. Other responsibilities exists for conducting chemical & bacteriological tests to ensure compliance with regulations; inspecting water and sewer lines; collecting samples; assisting with industrial monitoring of the pretreatment program; inspecting food service establishments; performing reviews of grease handling practices; creating community awareness as related to the FOG Program, investigating spills related to FOG; assisting with the water distribution flushing program; investigating complaints; and other duties as assigned.
To Compete in the Selection Process:
High School diploma or equivalent with college coursework in chemistry, biology, mathematics and/or environmental science and NC Driver’s License required. Associates Degree preferred. Experience in an industrial or municipal laboratory, water treatment or wastewater treatment is strongly preferred. Qualified candidate must possess a general knowledge of basic laboratory techniques, terminology, materials, equipment and chemical principles with the ability to prepare laboratory reagents; assemble apparatus for chemical and biological analysis; collect, preserve and analyze water and wastewater samples, perform mathematical calculations; maintain and create accurate records and reports; and work effectively with others.
Special Requirement: Must be to obtain a North Carolina Grade I Collection System Operator and/or a Class C Surface Water Treatment Operator certification within eighteen months of hire
