Utilities: Field Operations

Our Field Operations Department is responsible for the management, maintenance, cleaning and inspection of 211 miles of gravity sewer and force main lines with 19 lift stations and 220 miles of potable water mains and three (3) above ground storage tanks.  The City also maintains five (5) lift stations for Fallston and three (3) for Kingstown. Other responsibilities include maintenance of 82 miles of utility right of ways. To view our service areas: Water System and Sanitary Sewer System.

This department employs 14 highly trained full time employees.  Our personnel hold State certifications and NC Water Treatment facility certifications.

In order to provide quality service to our customers, interruptions to service are quickly resolved as employees are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week to correct any problems occurring on the City’s water or wastewater delivery systems.   Being highly visible to the public as they work along or near streets throughout the City, the department practices work safety in order to protect employees while fulfilling our commitment to provide service in a responsive and reliable manner.
