Christmas Tree Collection
Please remove all lights, ornaments, tinsel, and stands before you place your tree at the curbside. Please, no artificial trees.
Leaves, limbs, and grass are picked up on a routine cycle. On average the routine is weekly, however during heavy seasons the routine could take as long as three weeks to complete one cycle through the entire city.
Leaves and grass should be raked into two separate piles and left loosely on the curbside. Please do not bag any leaves, grass clippings, or brush. When utilizing the area between the roadway and sidewalk, the sidewalk should not be covered at anytime.
Only one pile of limbs, branches or tree trimmings are allowed on the curbside per pickup and each pile may not exceed greater in length than 8 feet long x 6 feet wide x 8 feet high and each cut branch should not be any larger than 12 inches in diameter. Please place branches parallel with the roadside. Any multiple piles or piles larger than noted are subject to a citation warning followed by fines as set by the City Ordinance.
Yard waste generated by contract labor is not removed by the City of Shelby. It shall be unlawful for any person to trim trees or provide any form of landscaping or yard maintenance service for compensation within the city unless it is (a) placed entirely upon the owner’s or occupant’s premises away from the curbside at the owner’s or occupant’s request, or (b) immediately removed from the premises and deposited or disposed of in a manner that conforms with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations (at the Cleveland County Landfill).
- Please do not pile yard waste on top of water meters, hydrants, and phone or cable boxes.
- PLEASE NOTE: It is unlawful and a violation of city code to place, sweep or blow leaves and other yard waste into the curb, gutter, street, storm drains or catch basins. Warning notices will be issued to violators, with citations issued to repeat offenders. Materials must be placed behind the curb for collection.
