Patrol Division

The backbone of any police agency are the first responders. The largest function within our agency is our Patrol Division. We currently have forty officers in our Patrol Division, each assigned to work one of four shifts. These officers work a 12-hour, nonrotating shift, providing law enforcement service to our citizens and guests. Each of these shifts are under the supervision of a Watch Commander and two Sergeant's.

There are two specialized units within our Patrol Division. The first is our canine unit. The canine unit consist of four officers and their respective canine. These officers work a split shift, and attend training at least once a week. The second specialized unit is our Traffic Enforcement Team. This team is made up of two officers who specialize in traffic accident investigation and enforcement. In addition, these two officers are certified as Child Safety Seat Technicians, and conduct traffic education programs in our city.

Pictured to the left is the Shelby Police Department headquarters. Our headquarters is located in historic uptown Shelby, one block south of the central court square and adjacent to City Hall. This building has served as our headquarters for approximately 30 years. This building is staffed 24 hours a day to assist with the needs of our citizens and guests.
