Dedication of Raper-Roark Plaza held on July 8, 2010...

                       

  

Raper-Roark Plaza is located at the corner of S. Lafayette and Graham Streets and provides a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of uptown Shelby! The plaza is named for two of Shelby's most dedicated citizens, former councilman, the Reverend Sam Raper and former Mayor, Les Roark.

Keep Shelby Beautiful Commission has a vacancy and is currently accepting applications from anyone interested in serving on this beautification commission. The applicant must reside within Shelby's City limits or ETJ area. Shelby's Code Enforcement Officers have been very busy since May investigating over 200 nuisance violations. You can report a nuisance violation  like the one shown in this photo, by calling 704-484-6829 and asking for Code Enforcement Officers Wanda LaRhette or Stuart McDaniel.

Comprehensive Land Use Plan provides guidance for the City as it continues to grow over the next 15 to 20 years. The Plan serves as a policy guide that will assist decision makers to direct growth in a logical and environmentally sensitive way.  The Plan provides a legal framework for the City to base regulatory decisions on and to assist in making decisions to manage growth. WHAT DOES THE PLANNING SERVICES DEPARTMENT DO?  The Planning Services Department handles a wide variety of long-range and day-to-day growth management, land use, zoning, and development review functions. Responsibilities include: coordinating the permit and subdivision review process; administering the Unified Development Ordinance and various adopted plans, providing support to the Planning & Zoning Board, Zoning Board of Adjustment, City Council and various council appointed committees regarding planning related issues; preparing a variety of plans and analysis tools to assist the City with planning initiatives. Code Enforcement is also part of our responsibilities, which include Nuisance Abatement and Junk Car issues.
