CITY-WIDE LITTER SWEEP

          SEPTEMBER 17 - OCTOBER 1, 2011

Keep Shelby Beautiful invites you to join them for a City-Wide Litter Sweep from September 17 – October 1, 2011!

Why is a Litter Sweep important? According to Keep America Beautiful:

  • Over 51 billion pieces of litter appear on U.S. roadways each year.

  • Litter clean up costs the U.S. more than $11.5 billion each year.

  • The presence of litter in a community decreases property values by 7%.

  • Litter pollutes our local waterways thus contaminating our drinking water.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

  • Organize your own roadside cleanup crew

  • Select an area to cleanup along a major roadway or along a neighborhood street(s)

  • Select a date for the cleanup between September 17 and October 1

  • Contact Keep Shelby Beautiful Coordinator, Mary Byrnes, for cleanup supplies & instructions at  704-484-6829 or email:  mary.byrnes@cityofshelby.com
