Community Relations Council

PURPOSE

The functions of the Council are:

  • To use the skill, knowledge, and experience of its members and the organizations and groups which they represent to assistant and to advise the local governmental agencies with respect to programs for orderly growth, development, and improvements of the community;
  • To keep the general public informed about such programs and of progress there under;
  • To study and review legislation relative to housing, employment, and education; and report to the Mayor and City Council compliance or non-compliance as to local, state, and federal laws;
  • To cooperate with other local agencies and organizations for the purpose of coordinating efforts to improve relations between all segments of the community within the City of Shelby.

MEMBERSHIP

The Council shall consist of seven (7) members, all to be appointed by the City Council, two (2) members shall be nominated by the Shelby High School Student Government Council, and one (1) appointment by the Shelby Police Department.

TERMS

Board members serve three year, staggered terms.  Terms expire in August.

MEETINGS

Regular meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m., Jackson’s Cafeteria, 720 Hamrick Street, Shelby, NC.
