Sanitation Equipment Operator II

Will perform semi-skilled work operating a refuse collection vehicle in the collection of solid waste and trash. Drives sanitation truck and other trash collection equipment picking up refuse from houses on a prescribed route.  Responsibilities include:  determining if items are acceptable for pick-up, operating hydraulic mechanisms for compressing and dumping refuse and transporting refuse to disposal area.   Drives and operates chipper truck, leaf truck and other equipment to collect rubbish, yard debris, furniture and appliances.  Conducts inspections of trucks and equipment, performs proper equipment maintenance and works to ensure adequate safety precautions in all duties performed. 

To Compete in the Selection Process:

High school diploma or equivalent with experience in the operation and maintenance of automotive equipment required.  General knowledge of traffic laws, regulations governing equipment operation, safe driving practices and occupational hazards required. Ability to follow specific oral instructions, detect sign of mechanical failures and establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers also required.

Special requirement:  Class B Commercial Driver’s License.
