Collections/Distribution Operator I

Performs installations, repair and maintenance of water and sewer lines and appurtenances.  Makes water and sewer taps and connections; installs meters; repairs and replaces lines; unstops lines with rodding or jet machine; and flushes hydrants.  Also performs general grounds maintenance tasks and landscaping on property after work is complete.  Operates trucks, air hammer, tapping machine, beginning backhoe operation and other mechanical equipment in connection with tasks described.

Hours:  Full-time, first shift hours.  Will be required to work outside of normal working hours in stand-by, on-call or other emergency situations.

To Compete in the Selection Process:

High school diploma or equivalent with knowledge of tools, materials, equipment and tasks used in the installation, replacement, maintenance and repair of water and sewer lines.  Thorough knowledge in the use of common hand and power tools, ability to operate a backhoe and other medium construction equipment, ability to perform manual and semiskilled labor for extended periods.

Special requirement:  Commercial Driver’s License and possession of or ability to obtain Grade I Wastewater Collection and/or Class C Water Distribution certifications by the North Carolina State Board for Certification within 18 months of employment.
