Grounds Crew Leader

Performs work supervising and participating in a variety of grounds and facility maintenance assignments including turf and grounds maintenance for athletic fields, golf course, and other areas.  Leads and participates in the work of grounds crews; assigns, directs, trains, and inspects the work of staff; monitors work quality and quantity; performs tasks related to turf management and landscaping like mowing, trimming, edging and irrigation repairs; mows ball fields and surrounding areas; manicures dirt infields on ballfields; waters athletic fields; installs bases, pitching mounds, foul poles, and ensures correct measurements; repairs backstop and other fencing; mows golf course fairways, roughs, tees, and greens; waters golf tees, greens, and fairways; changes pin locations and manicures sand traps; plants flower beds, trees, shrubs, and other plants; prunes trees; sprays pesticides and herbicides; sows grass seed; applies fertilizers and chemicals; assigns equipment to employees; ensures employees are properly trained to operate equipment; performs minor and preventive maintenance on equipment and facilities; ensures safety of operations and enforces safety regulations; operates tools, tractors, mowers, and vehicles in performance of duties and prepares and maintains detailed reports.

Hours: Full-time, first shift hours.  Will be required to work outside of normal working hours for events in stand-by, on-call or other emergency situations.

To Compete in the Selection Process:

High school diploma or equivalent with moderate experience working with athletic turf.  Must also have knowledge of maintenance, repair and tasks involved in facility and grounds maintenance; safe use, maintenance and operation of equipment, common hand and specialized power tools required in the work; ability to operate personal computer  and  applicable software; ability to perform labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions; supervise the work of others; establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, patrons and general public.

Special requirements: Possession of Ornamental & Turf Pesticide Applicator Certification upon hire and valid NC Commercial Driver’s License or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
