Safety & Risk Management Coordinator

Performs professional work planning, developing, implementing and administering the safety and risk management programs for the City of Shelby.  Qualified individual prepares, processes and maintains confidential personnel records and files related to risk management, safety and worker’s compensation;  develops and maintains the Safety Policy Manual; coordinates the City’s risk management programs to include tort liability, vehicle fleet liabilities, property liability and worker compensation; processes insurance settlements, denials and renewals; prepares weekly risk management report for City management; as Chair of the Safety Committee coordinates program, activities and monthly meetings; coordinates and/or provides OSHA required training; coordinates City’s drug testing program; manages the blood borne pathogen exposure plan; coordinates the DOL Safety program; investigates and completes necessary reports regarding employee injuries, accidents and City liability claims; coordinates multiple Human Resources programs including Employee of the Quarter, Employee of the Year and United Way; functions as a Human Resources Generalist as needed.

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm

To Compete in the Selection Process:

Bachelor’s Degree with major course work in industrial relations or related field with a minimum of 5 years safety compliance experience.  Must have a thorough knowledge of the principles practices of general insurance, claims processing/adjusting, worker compensation, employee safety and OSHA.  Should possess the ability to present ideas effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to operate personal computer with knowledge of applicable software packages and demonstrated leadership and communication skills.  NC Driver’s License and Certified Safety Technician/Professional required.
